To examine, informed by emerging IRI research into how sustainable gambling is understood and applied across different jurisdictions and stakeholder groups, whether the current concept of responsible gambling remains sufficient, and what a broader, more sustainable model of shared responsibility between industry, consumers, regulators and wider society could look like.
- If responsibility is increasingly shared between consumers, industry, regulators and wider society, where should that responsibility sit and what should each party reasonably be accountable for?
- What evidence and commitments would be needed to demonstrate meaningful progress rather than simply a change in language?
- Is greater social legitimacy a realistic outcome of a more sustainable model, or will gambling always remain an inherently emotive and divisive issue?
