Jodi Scholtz
Jodi Scholtz is the Commissioner of South Africa’s National Lotteries Commission (NLC), appointed in February 2023 to lead the organization’s dual mandate of regulating lotteries and sports pools, and distributing funding for social impact. With over two decades of public-sector leadership, Scholtz brings deep expertise in governance, strategic transformation, and institutional reform.
Before joining the NLC, Scholtz served as Chief Operating Officer at the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (DTIC), and as Lead Administrator at the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS), where she implemented a successful turnaround strategy focused on operational efficiency, compliance, and regaining stakeholder trust.
Scholtz holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Cape Town (UCT), BComm Hons from the University of the Western Cape, an MBA from the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS), and various executive training courses from Harvard & Stanford Universities. She also has 2 post graduate diplomas focused on trade policy and business administration. Her leadership is defined by integrity, accountability, and a strong commitment to ethical governance.
Since assuming her role at the NLC, Scholtz has prioritised restoring the Commission’s credibility through governance reforms, including lifestyle audits, strengthening internal controls, and reparations for whistleblowers and affected communities. Her efforts have earned her recognition as one of the Top 50 Most Influential Women in Gaming, Africa (2024), underscoring her advocacy for transformation, gender equity, and public trust.
Scholtz continues to be a driving force in reshaping public institutions to deliver transparent, fair, modern, and impactful service to South Africans.
