Tribute To Ernest L. Stevens, Jr, Chairman of the Indian Gaming Association
Stuart Hunter, Managing Director, Clarion Gaming
“Everyone connected with Clarion Events and ICE Barcelona was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Ernie Stevens Jr, Chairman of the Indian Gaming Association, who passed on Friday 26th September at the age of just 66-years.
He will be remembered not only as one of the most powerful voices for tribal sovereignty, but also as a person of kindness, warmth, with an unshakable commitment to his people.
Under his leadership of the Indian Gaming Association, tribal government gaming grew into the largest sector of the U.S. gaming industry, growing resources for tribal communities and creating opportunities for future generations.
Chairman Stevens built bridges between tribal nations, federal officials, and industry leaders, uniting communities in the process. He was a great friend of Clarion Events and ICE and ensured that the global show reflected the needs of the gaming universe.
On a personal level I will remember with great affection his drive, his generosity, his vision and his optimism. He will be greatly missed.”
